Is merino warmer than fleece?
Merino wool is often warmer than synthetic fleece as it traps heat more effectively while remaining breathable. Heavyweight technical fleece can offer similar warmth when static but lacks merino’s moisture management and odour resistance.
How long can you wear merino wool before washing? You can wear merino wool multiple times between washes thanks to its natural odour resistance, with many people wearing it for many months without washing. We recommend your PureFleece® can often be freshened up simply by hanging in a breeze on a clothes line.
Does it shrink? - Our fabric is pre-shrunk and the garments are designed to maintain their size. Following the simple care instructions will help maintain the original fit.
Where are your garments made? - All our garments are expertly made by a highly experienced and skilled team in North London, England.
Where is your Merino from? - Our mulesing-free Merino Wool is from approved and regulated suppliers in Australia and PureFleece® is accredited and licensed by Woolmark for purity and quality.
What dyes are used? - The fabric dyes are certified with Oeko-Tex Standards - these are considered low impact and have also been tested for harmful substances.
Is it itchy? - The merino wool used in PureFleece is very fine, at 20 microns so bends against the skin without irritation. Normal wool is around 35 microns.
Is merino wool warm enough for winter?
Yes, merino wool, especially in heavier weights like 250g and above, provides reliable warmth for winter activities while wicking moisture to keep you dry.
Is merino wool too hot for summer?
Merino wool is not too hot for summer. It remains breathable and moisture-wicking, actually keeping you cool in warm weather. Lightweight Merino T-Shirts Base layers are ideal on hot days and mid layers are fine up to around 18-20 degrees C
What is the best wool to keep you warm?
Merino is one of the best options due to its fine fibres and insulating properties. Cashmere and alpaca are warmer gram-for-gram but less durable for outdoor and frequent wear.
Is there anything warmer than merino wool?
Cashmere and alpaca are a fraction warmer than merino for their weight, but merino offers far better durability and moisture management for layering and active use.
What are the disadvantages of merino wool?
Merino wool can be more expensive, knitted garments can be prone to holes if snagged and they require a little protection from moths when stored. Some garments may pill over time - people also find low-quality merino slightly itchy. Many Merino fabrics (not ours!) are also treated with a finish called Superwash that coats the fibres in fine polyester, reducing the natural performance of merino and making the fibres less durable.
Is 100% merino worth it?
Yes, 100% merino wool is worth it if you value natural temperature regulation, odour resistance, and softness. It always outperforms blends for comfort in active and cold conditions.
Is merino wool better than fleece?
Merino wool is superior to fleece for odour resistance, breathability, and sustainability. Fleece is cheaper and dries faster when fully saturated.
Is merino wool better than regular wool?
Yes, merino is softer, finer, and more comfortable against the skin compared to regular wool, making it ideal for base and mid layers. Regular Wool has a fibre width of around 35 microns. Good quality Merino is finer, at 18-21 Microns
What is the warmest type of fleece?
While high-pile or heavyweight fleece, such as Polartec Thermal Pro or Sherpa fleece, is the warmest type of synthetic fleece available, 100% Merino has better thermodynamic qualities than synthetic fleece, so is warmer and more breathable.
How long can you wear merino wool before washing?
You can wear merino wool multiple times between washes thanks to its natural odour resistance, with many people wearing it for many weeks or even months without washing. Merino can often be freshened up simply by hanging in a breeze on a clothes line.
How to tell if merino wool is good quality?
Good quality merino feels soft, has a low micron count (21 microns or under for base and mid layers), and is often from reputable brands with ethical sourcing certifications such as Woolmark. If a brand doesn’t mention their micron count, its probably because its not good quality.
Should I get 100% merino wool?
If you want maximum softness, odour resistance, and natural performance benefits, 100% merino wool is ideal, especially if woven, which adds durability. Blends can be more durable and cost-effective but don’t perform as well.
What are the benefits of 100% merino wool?
It offers excellent temperature regulation, moisture-wicking, odour resistance, biodegradability, and softness without any synthetic additives.
What percentage of merino wool is best?
For maximum benefits, 100% merino is ideal. For durability in activewear, blends with 10–20% nylon or elastane provide stretch and strength, but don’t perform as well.
Is 100% merino wool itchy?
High-quality 100% merino wool is not itchy due to its fine fibres, unlike traditional wool, and is comfortable directly against the skin.
